Fall Classic Game 7 Attracts 51 Million Viewers Across the US, Canadian and Japan Regions.

The nail-biting extended clash where the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Blue Jays by one run attracted a combined over 50 million spectators in the United States, Canadian, and Japan territories. Major League Baseball announced this marks the most-watched Fall Classic finale after the 1991 edition showdown between the Minnesota Twins and Braves.

Television Ratings Breakdown

Last Saturday’s epic game drew 27.33 million audience members on Fox Sports networks, its Spanish-language channel and their streaming platforms. Per Nielsen, it was the second highest-rated broadcast of the week.

It also is the most-watched World Series matchup since the 2017 final game involving the Los Angeles Dodgers and Astros, which averaged 29.07M. This represents a 16% increase compared to the previous Game 7 between the Nationals and Houston Astros, which attracted 23.19 million viewers.

In the weekly rankings, Game 6 placed 4th, Game 4 was 7th, the fifth game came in 8th, and the third game landed in 13th position.

Global Viewership Figures

In Canada, the game recorded over 11 million viewers on the Sportsnet network and the French TVA Sports channel. This was the most-watched English-language broadcast in Canada since the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the deciding contest started at 9 p.m. local time, it attracted 12 million. This followed the previous Friday’s Game 6 – where World Series MVP Yamamoto allowed a single run in six frames – recorded over 13 million spectators, making it the most-watched World Series matchup on a sole broadcaster in Japan.

Overall Totals and Trends

The full seven-game series averaged 15.71 million viewers on Fox, a two percent rise from the previous year’s Dodgers versus Yankees matchup. This marks the initial instance after 2015 and ‘16 that the Fall Classic has recorded audience growth for two consecutive years.

Counting the opening game broadcast on the Univision network, the complete US average reached 16.1M. The overall Fall Classic viewership in Japan was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in the Canadian market.

The complete MLB Postseason on Fox, FS1 and FS2 drew 8.09 million viewers, an 8% rise over last year and Fox’s best playoff ratings since 2017.

MLB announced that the Fall Classic was broadcast in 203 countries and territories by 44 broadcasting partners in 16 different tongues.
