Cars in Germany's Town Found Smeared with Nazi Symbols in Blood, Law Enforcement State

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Police
Police stated they were alerted by a resident who found a car in Hanau marked with red-colored liquid

Around fifty cars have been covered with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to authorities.

Vehicles, walls and postboxes were marked, occasionally with swastikas, they announced in a official communication.

Law enforcement say they were contacted during the night on Wednesday night, when a man noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish liquid.

The substance had been applied in the pattern of a banned symbol, they added.

Law enforcement then found multiple other smeared automobiles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.

These symbols are illegal in Germany under laws outlawing the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.

Officials state preliminary tests show the fluid was most likely human bodily fluid.

"Currently there is no lead as to its source; officials are currently not aware of any injuries in relation with the incident," they commented.

Municipal representatives said they were working "to unravel the case" and have appealed to the residents for details.

A senior political figure commented the incident made him stunned and required to be resolved rapidly.

"This event hits the very heart of Hanau and revives the wounds of the extremist terrorist attack half a decade ago," he posted on a platform, referring to the killing of nine people by a shooter aiming at residents of immigrant origin in February 2020.
